A real framework

If you ask anybody on the Datastar discord (or if you read my essay on this), they will tell you not to use Datastar.

And, in the same vein, I am begging you:

Please do not use Red Dwarf.

...

...

...why?

The reason could be because it is a toy project and still in development, but it's more than that.

It is because web development is a serious matter .

And just as you shouldn't use Datastar just because you want to write funny Javascript, or mess with React devs, you shouldn't use Red Dwarf because you should build something of value.

Bring something of value to this world. And use the best tools at your disposition, and do the best thing you are able to do.

What's the point, then?

I built Red Dwarf for the following reason:

Your backend is more than your server .

And I built Red Dwarf to really hammer this point across. Red Dwarf is a server. Build the rest of the backend.

To do something serious and get down to business, Stario, Starlette, Sanic, Quart, are very powerful tools, with handy helpers and middleware: think pubsub systems, authentication, database integrations...

With Red Dwarf, we sever that link.

So that when you restore it, when you add the missing parts, you get a better understanding of what is doable.

Really?

Yes, really.

If that's not your jam, let's say Red Dwarf is an "educational" framework, built for begginner compsci students and that's that.

If you enjoy spending time in your IDE, writing Python, figuring out cool stuff, you might like Red Dwarf.

Your own art of motocycle maintenance.

But please don't use AI. AI makes you boring . Build the stuff yourself. It's easier than you think, you can do it.

Now go build.
